Everest base camp helicopter tour FAQ

Everest base camp helicopter is very safe for traveling to Everest base camp. Moreover, it offers you the great and whole view of Mt. Everest in less time. Moreover, the flight will not take off if there are bad weather conditions. So, we can say it is very safe to travel to Everest camp by helicopter.

Yes, the helicopter can land on Mt. Everest. On May 14, 2005, Didier Delsalle, a fighter pilot became the first man to land a helicopter on the peak of Mount Everest. But, it becomes very risky for a normal pilot to drive helicopters on the top of Mt.Everest due to thin air. It needs special training and skill for that. Most of the helicopters which carry passengers every day land at either Everest base camp or Kala Patthar for passenger safety.

Helicopters are generally designed to fly at altitudes of 10,000 feet. As we go higher the air gets thinner, which needs the blade of the helicopter to work harder to generate the same amount of lift. If the helicopter flies at a higher altitude than its limit, then the unsteady movement of air unbalances the helicopter and it becomes hard for blades to work properly. But, helicopters with turbine engines can fly at altitudes of 25,000 during forward flight.

There are two base camps on Mt. Everest one south base camp at an altitude of 5,364 meters and another north base camp at an altitude of 5,150 meters. South base camp starts from the Lukla to Sherpa, which is located at an altitude of 11,290 feet.

Before you go to the north base camp you need permission from the Chinese government. The government has closed the visit of tourists to the North base camp since february 2019.

Yes, good weather is very important for the Everest base camp helicopter tour. Due to bad weather the tour is canceled or postponed sometimes for travelers safety. If the weather is foggy then it causes low visibility which makes it difficult for aircraft to find the way. As we know In the Everest base camp tour, we have to land at the Lukla Airport, the world’s most dangerous airport. If there was any mistake while landing then it can be an unsafe flight of your life. However, 100% funds will be refunded if the tour is canceled due to bad weather conditions.

The months of October and November are the best time for Everest base camp helicopter tours. During this time the sky is very clear and the weather is also moderate. So you can clearly see the high range mountains, greenery landscape, and many small villages.

The months of december-february is also the best times for the tour. At that time the high range mountains are fully covered with white snow that looks even more indescribably stunning.

Yes, the aircraft are well trained and have years of experience in this line. They also have medical knowledge, so they can help you with any emergency situation. Moreover, they have the full knowledge of Mount Everest, local culture, and the traditional life of the villagers which they can explain to you very clearly.
