Mt Everest

Mt Everest is a world-famous mountain peak around the world. Firstly, it was well known to the world due to the first climb by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa,and its heights are known as the highest in the world.

Mt Everest lies in Nepal’s most popular base camp trek, the Everest Base Camp Trek. This peak is also famous for its exotic Sherpa villages, monasteries, flora, and fauna.

Previously, the data of Mt Everest was 8848m. However, according to new measurements, the height of Mt Everest has increased to 8,848.86/29,029ft.

This mountain’s earth coordinates are 27°59′17″N 86°55′31″E.  The first height of Nepal was established by a 1955 Indian survey and confirmed by a Chinese study in 1975. A chinese survey did the new height of Mt Everest.

This peak is visited by more than 35000 people every year. There are two main climbing routes on Mt Everest. They are southeast of Nepal (the standard route) and from the north of Tibet.

Mt Annapurna

Mt Annapurna is the second most famous and the top peak in Nepal. Mt Annapurna, which has a height of 8,091 meters (26,545 ft), is one of the most strenuous climbs worldwide. This mountain is also one of the most trekked mountains in Nepal. The earth coordinate of this mountain is 28°35′44″N 83°49′13″E. It is also the tenth highest mountain in Nepal.

The name Annapurna Mountain Range comes from Mt Annapurna. Annapurna is a Sanskrit name that can be translated as the goddess of harvests. Annapurna Range is derived from the five highest peaks of Mt Annapurna. Among them, Annapurna I and II are the first and the second highest peak of this range.

Maurice Herzog and Louis Lachenal did the first ascent of Mt Annapurna on June 3, 1950. 

Annapurna Circuit Trek and the Annapurna Base Camp Trek are the best ways to view this mountain range.

Mt Langtang

Mt Langtang is the mountain that has the closest distance to Kathmandu. It has a height of 7,234 m (23,734 ft). A Japanese expedition made the first ascent of Mt Langtang from the East Ridge. The first winter ascent to Mt Langtang was made by polish mountaineers Mikołaj Czyżewski, Kazimierz Kiszka and Adam Potoczek on 3 January 1988.

More than 14 accents were done in Mt Langtang. Among them, southeast or southwest Ridge routes were more successful than the others.

Mt Manaslu

Mt Manaslu is one of Nepal’s peaks that is famous worldwide. Mt Manaslu is also the eighth highest peak in the world. It has a height of 8,163 m/26,759ft.  The earth coordinate of this mountain is 28°33′00″N 84°33′35″E. Mt Manaslu is also the eighth highest mountain in the world. This mountain is the highest peak of the Gorkha massif and a part of the Manaslu Conservation Area.

The significant peaks adjoining this mountain are Ngadi Chuli, Himalchuli, and Baudha.

The first ascent of Mt Manaslu was done by famous Japanese mountaineers Toshio Imanishi, Artur Hajzer,and Gyalzen Norbu on May 9, 1956.

The location of Mt Manaslu lies 40 miles east of Annapurna peak. This mountain became more famous when an all-female Japanese expedition successfully ascended the summit. This makes Mt Manaslu the first peak above 8,000 m climbed by a woman.

Chulu West Peak

The Chulu West Peak is the Mera Peak alternative to Annapurnas. Chulu West Peak, which has a height of  6,419 meters (21,055 ft) is a peak with the world’s most beautiful  trekking routes. The earth coordinate of this mountain is 28° 44′ 37” N, 84° 1′ 23” E. This mountain is one of the 6000M+ climbing peaks in the midwest of Nepal. 

Chulu West is the part of Chulu East and Chulu Central. Chulu Central has rarely been climbed. People even believe the Chulu West Peak to be one of the best peaks in the Annapurna region. This mountain was first ascended in 1952 by a Japanese Expedition.

Chulu West is part of Damodar Himal range of Manang in western Nepal. Chulu west has the best view of Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, Annapurna, and other Himalaya peaks.

Yala Peak

Yala Peak is famously known  for being an excellent viewpoint of the remote himalayas. It has an elevation of 5550m (18044.62 ft). The earth coordinate of this mountain is 28°14’24”N, 85°37’33”E. 

Yala Peak is a trekking peak by the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA).  This peak lies  in the Langtang Region of Nepal. This peak shows you beautiful views of famous mountains of Nepal like the Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa and Shisapagma.

Island Peak

Island Peak is one of the most famous Peaks in Nepal, with a height of 6,160 m. This Peak was a training base for the famous mountaineers Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa to climb the highest mountain in the world, Mt Everest. Even today, the route we are climbing was the one taken by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay.

Locally, it is known as Imja She.

Today, the Island Peak trek is famous all around the world.

The team for the Island Peak climb included Tenzing Norgay, Charles Evans, Alfred Gregory, Charles Wylie,and seven other Sherpas. The first ascent of the main peak of this mountain was done by mountaineer Hans-Rudolf Von Gunten and two unknown Sherpas, members of a Swiss team. The same team leads to the second ascent of Everest. Also, this team leads the first ascent of Lhotse.

Lobuche East Peak

The Lobuche East Peak has an elevation of 6,119m (20,075ft) above sea level. The earth coordinate of Lobuche East Peak is 27°57′34.2″N 86°47′23.8″E. The first ascent of Lobuche East Peak was done by ascent of Lobuche East was made by Laurence Nielson and Sherpa Ang Gyalzen on April 25, 1984.

The Lobuche East peak is located conveniently next to the path to Everest Base Camp. The summit of this peak provides the views of Everest/Lhotse/Nuptse massif, Makalu, Pumori, Ama Dablam, Cho Oyu, Thamserku, and many others.

Mt Lotshe

Mt Lotshe is the fourth highest mountain in the world. It has an elevation of 8,516 meters/27,940 ft and lies between Tibet and the Khumbu region of Nepal. The earth coordinate of this mountain is 27°57′42″N 86°55′59″E. 

Sometimes, many people mistakenly believe that Mt Lotshe is the south peak of the Everest massif. Only after Everest had been successfully ascended did people begin to turn their attention to Mt Lotshe.

Mt Lotshe has also become a popular alternative to Mount Everest. Many people follow the route of EBC base camp to Chukkang for the tantalizing Mt Lotshe.

Two famous mountaineers, Fritz Luchsinger and Ernest Reiss from Switzerland were the first climbers of Mt Lotshe. They did this feat on May 18, 1956. 

Furthermore, this mountain has two subsidiary peaks, Lhotse Shar and Nuptse. Lhotse Shar lies east of the main summit, and Nuptse is the high peak on the mountain’s west ridge. Mt Lotshe shares the same base camp as Everest.

Lhotse Middle was one of the highest unclimbed mountains on earth. However, it changed when Fritz Luchsinger and Ernest Reiss took the claim of the first climbers.

Mera Peak

Mera Peak is one of the famous mountains of Nepal, with an elevation of 6,476 meters. It is also a certified trekking peak of Nepal. Many of this mountain’s first ascent was done by the British. Among them there were famous mountaineers like Edmund Hillary, Tenzing Norgay, Eric Shipton, and George Lowe. 

The first ascent to this peak was done by Col. Jimmy Roberts and Sen Tenzing. Col. Roberts was also awarded the “Sagarmatha (Everest) National Award ” in May 2005 by the Nepali government for his contribution to Nepali Mountaineering and trekking industry.

Some people believe that the first ascent to Mera North was done by Marcel Jolly, G. Baus, and L. Honills. However, some others believe that it was not them but L. Limarques, Ang Lhakpa, and two other Sherpas who were the first.

In September 2017, the first double above-knee amputee was born. Hari Budha Magar became the first double above-knee amputee to climb a mountain over 6,000m altitude.
